KnowConflict's
Conflict Management Course is administered via the Internet. The
complete courseware includes parent and teacher guides that parallel
student lessons. As a result, parents and teachers can learn along
with students, reinforcing and putting conflict management skills
into practice at school and at home.
Student
Lessons
Learning to manage the conflicts students face every day can give
them skills for a happy, productive life in school, at home, and
in their community. The eight lessons teach rational thinking,
decision-making, effective communication, anger management, and
positive interaction skills. Each lesson is presented in a dynamic
Internet-based format, filled with humor and conflict scenarios
teens can relate to. Lessons also include activities and evaluations
to test and reinforce what they've learned.
Teacher
Training
Teacher training is designed to reinforce and support the conflict
management skills students learn as they progress through the
lessons. Through mini tours of each lesson, teachers can familiarize
themselves with the concepts their students are studying. In addition,
they'll learn the basic steps of a conflict resolution process
they can use in the classroom as well as with parents and other
school personnel.
Parent
Lessons
One of the most effective ways parents can support their children's
efforts to manage conflict is to learn conflict management skills
themselves. As with the teacher lessons, parents take a mini tour
for each of the eight lessons, receiving an adult version of the
conflict management concepts their children are studying. Presented
in a format that requires a minimal time commitment, these parent
lessons can benefit the entire family as well as adult interactions
at work and with the school.
Parent/Teacher
Guide
The guide is designed to give parents and teachers an outline
format of the conflict management lessons students receive. It
features supplementary information on activities for school and
home as well as topics for discussion in the classroom and around
the dinner table. The Parent/Teacher Guide is also available in
printed form for homes that do not have Internet access.
